CEA Endorses MobileToys.com

As part of an on going effort to educate consumers about the mobile electronics industry, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) Mobile electronics Division endorsed MobileToys.com, a Web site dedicated to providing information on automotive electronics. "The mobile electronics industry is expanding rapidly in scope and scale," said Gary Shapiro, CEA president and CEO. "The educational content on MobileToys.com is in keeping with our efforts to provide consumers and industry professionals with information about this growing category of products." MobileToys.com gives consumers access to an extensive database of local retailers, mobile electronics needs and their vehicle's specifications. After making their selections, consumers are invited to have their purchase installed by a local retailer who participates in the Mobile Electronics Certification Program (MECP). Founded in 1991, MECP is the only nationally recognized program that certifies 12-volt installers on electronics, installation knowledge/technique and tools/shop safety. Owned and managed by CEA, the program is the benchmark of professionalism in the mobile electronics installation industry. "Our Internet strategy provides consumers with the best of both worlds," explained MobileToys.com Vice President and COO Bob Fields. "The power and convenience of the Web, combined with the expertise and service of local MECP certified installing retailers ensures product performance and customer satisfaction." MobileToys.com resulted from the collaboration of industry professionals and their organizations to provide information pertaining to all areas of mobile electronics. CEA's Mobile Electronics Division became involved in the project after Fields presented the idea at the CEA Fall Conference on October 17, 1998. The initial response from the manufacturers, retailers and association leaders, who make up the Mobile Electronics Division board, was very positive, and CEA members have been actively involved in developing the site ever since.
